Why did I make this page?
This page is just a scetch, a draft, to provide me and others with a way of communication regarding the work of bringing SBKs model of mentaltesting working dog breeds over to North America.
The mentaltesting was first started in the 30s by the swedish militarys breeding program for german shepherd for service. To give us a guidelines in the breeding and reinforce certain traits in the dog - while ruling out unwanted traits like fear or skiddishness. In Sweden the MH is part of SBKs work to continue breeding good, solid dogs for work and show. For 80 years this test has been part of the swedes dogculture, and thanks to interest shown here in North America we're a hand full of individuals working towards the goal to be able to offer MHtesting to breeders and dogowners.
To me, personally, trying to do this and get a mental evaluation program going in Canada and the US is my way of trying to give back some to the breed that has given me so much and taught me even more - the German Shepherd. It all started with my great grandfathers dog Surry, who belonged to the swedish military but lived with her family, my great grand father, great grand mother and grand father when she wasn't working. For 4 generations, there has been one breed that's been "more" than the rest, all the way down to the dog I own today. The MH is a way to provide breeders and owners with an idea about the dogs curage and drives, as well as social aggression which in todays society is of major importance.
